Choosing the right vehicle saves money and avoids failed collections. Ask four questions.
1. How heavy is it?
Add up the weight of everything, including pallets and packaging. Under about 1 tonne, a double cab pickup is usually enough. For 3 to 7 tonnes, choose a medium truck. Heavier, bulky loads need a larger closed or open body truck. Always give us the weight in kilograms: it is the single most useful detail in a booking.
2. How much space does it take?
Light but bulky goods, such as foam, empty cartons or furniture, can fill a truck long before they reach its weight limit. Give us the number of pieces and rough sizes, or the number of pallets.
3. Does it need protection?
Garments, paper, electronics, food and pharmaceuticals should travel in a closed body truck, away from rain, dust and view. Construction materials, machinery and steel travel well on an open or dropside truck, with a tarpaulin if needed.
4. How will it be loaded?
Forklift and crane loading is easiest from the side, so choose an open or dropside truck. Hand-loaded cartons work in any body. Tell us if you need loading help or if the site has dock levellers.
Not sure? Pick the closest category, describe the cargo, and our dispatcher will confirm or suggest a better fit before the vehicle is assigned.
